Introduction to Project-Based Learning and Project Models at CTU

Expected Outcomes:  Participants will explore the value of project-based learning in enhancing graduate readiness for industry and various project-based learning implementation models, including a project spine (spanning all four years of a program of study).  A specific type of student project, called EPICS, will be introduced.  Building on this foundation, in day 2 and 3 of this series participants will engage with Vietnamese educators that have implemented focused or student self-selected project classes like EPICS – Engineering Project In Community Services or MEP – Maker to Entrepreneur Program, as well as undergraduate research experiences.

Brief overview of active learning models and their positive impact on student learning and student readiness for success in industry. Project based learning is featured as one specific active learning model.
9:00 – 9:30 am Curriculum Models for Project-Based Learning
Specific curriculum implementation models and details related to successful project-based learning environments will be provided, with participants evaluating benefits, feasibility and implementation issues.

9:45 – 10:45 am Student Project Models
Student project models range from student self-selected, e.g., EPICS, to mandatory projects for all students.

Vietnamese local faculty leads will provide additional details on WEPICS and EPICS programs and describe their implementation experiences with them. These state-of-the-art student project experiences utilize Maker Innovation Space venue.

Vietnamese local faculty leads will provide details on eProject student experiences and describe their university engagement in this type of project experience. Differences with EPICS implementation experiences will be highlighted.
