After completing this workshop, participants will be aware of course evaluation question research and be able to differentiate between “good” and “bad” questions for student course evaluation surveys.  Participants will then analyze their institution/college’s course evaluation survey and identify good and bad questions.

Participants should bring a copy of the course evaluation form used by their program or school.

9:05 – 10:00 am Student Course Evaluation Background
Discussion on why course evaluations exist and how they are used will set the stage for determining institutional and program goals for student course evaluations.
10:00 – 10:20 am Tea break
10:20 – 12:00 am Research-based Course Evaluation Questions
Research conducted on student course evaluation and questions will be summarized for participants.
12:00 – 1:30 am Lunch
1:30 – 2:30 pm Survey Question Analysis
Participants will critique a set of course evaluation questions and discuss which are “good” questions and which are “bad” questions.
2:30 – 4:00 pm Institutional Course Evaluation Critique
Participants will critique their institution/college/program course evaluation and its questions and identify improvements, with validation by instructors. Then, participants will begin development of a strategy to improve their institution/college/program course evaluation.
4:00 – 4:15 pm Wrap up
