Building on the problem-based curriculum models and value to student learning workshop in September 2017, this workshop addresses structuring and monitoring student progress on a major project, methods of assessing student attainment of both technical and generic course learning outcomes, how to build a curriculum to incorporate student projects, how to identify good project ideas and addressing funding issues for PBL activities.

8:30 – 8:45 am Overview of Workshop and Expectations
8:45 – 10:00 am Student Activities within a Design-Build-Test Project Participants will identify key project milestones that reinforce important aspects of the engineering design process as related to design-build projects. Then, a draft course schedule will be developed incorporating these milestones. The schedule will enforce student progress goals and provide opportunities for monitoring student progress. Both one and two-semester projects will be addressed.
10:00 – 10:30 am Coffee and Tea Break
10:30 – 11:45 am Assessing Student Attainment of Learning Outcomes in a Design Project Participants will develop expected learning outcomes for students working on a major design-build-test project. Then, using constructive alignment of learning and assessment, appropriate assessment tools will be identified.

1:30 – 2:00 pm Participant Question Responses & Discussion
2:00 – 2:30 pm Course Planning for Project-Based Learning A detailed course syllabus incorporating project milestones related to the engineering design process and student design-build-test project will be developed. Related assessment methods/techniques will be specified and discussed.
2:30 – 3:00pm Curriculum Planning for Project-Based Learning Participants will identify issues and opportunities for embedding project based learning in their programs, using their current programs of study (program curricula).
3:00 – 3:30 pm Coffee and Tea Break
3:00 – 4:00 pm Project Development Techniques Specific implementation tools used by ASU Polytechnic School to solicit and monitor project procurement for its students will be explored and discussed. Participants will be asked to identify issues they see with regard to use of such tools in Vietnam Universities and possible solutions will be discussed.
4:00 – 4:15 pm Wrap-up and Evaluation of Workshop
