Implementing Student Learning Assessment Systems for Program Improvement

This workshop will build on the work done in September’s workshop. It is important that program teams from those programs prioritized in the institutional BUILD-IT MOU’s attend! First, there will be presentations by selected programs of their homework related to program educational objectives and development of student outcomes. Then, the concept of performance indicators will be introduced followed by program teams gaining experience in developing valid performance indicators for their program’s student outcomes. The performance indicators developed by program teams will be mapped to their program’s courses and initial attempts at selecting the specific student work artifacts for assessment will be made. Appropriate assessment tools for different kinds of performance indicators’ student work will be introduced, e.g., rubrics. Assessment tool development and their use for technical and professional (soft) skills will be practiced. If time permits, planning and development of an overall assessment plan for a program will be begun.
