BUILD IT would like to offer Engineering Projects in Community Services Program (EPICS) workshops to its university partners. These workshops are to introduce the EPICS program, project-based learning combined with service learning and entrepreneurial mindset. The more in-depth discussions of this workshop are designed to established partnerships between Arizona State University and other host institutions to established cross-institution collaboration courses in which teams composed of students from both universities can work on projects found in the communities local to both institutions.

Day 1 Monday January 14th, 2019
8:30 - 9:00 am Registration and Networking
9:00 - 9:10 am Welcome and Workshop Introduction
9:10 - 11:00 am Overview of EPICS: Program Overview, project examples and differences between EPICS and Project Based Learning
11:00 - 11:15 am Coffee and Tea Break
11:15 - 12:15 pm EPICS challenge & Rapid Prototyping : Faculty will use rapid prototype to learn and experiment with human-centered EPICS design
12:15 – 1:00 pm Lunch
1:00 – 2:00 pm EPICS Challenge & Rapid Prototyping Cont.
2:00 - 4:00 pm Design process breakouts and debrief (coffee and tea served): Faculty will break out into five groups to dive into specific areas of EPICS design process. Each group will then report back findings to overall group. Wrap up and debrief about next steps
Day 2 Tuesday, January 15th, 2019

9:00 - 11:00 am Workshop on Modules 1 & 2: Faculty will learn about Project Identification and Specification Development through the development of module skills and deliverables. The deliverables and techniques for these modules will be illustrated with case studies and examples.
11:00 – 11:15 am Coffee and Tea Break
11:15 – 12:15 pm Workshop on Module 3: Faculty will learn about Conceptual Design through the development of module skills and deliverables. The deliverables and techniques for these modules will be illustrated with case studies and examples.
12:15 – 1:00 pm Lunch
1:00 – 3:00 pm Workshop on Modules 4: Faculty will learn about Detailed Design through the development of module skills and deliverables. The deliverables and techniques for these modules will be illustrated with case studies and examples.
3:00 – 3:15 pm Coffee and Tea Break
3:15 – 4:30 pm Workshop on Module 5 & 6: Faculty will learn about Delivery and Project Retirement through the development of module skills and deliverables. The deliverables and techniques for these modules will be illustrated with case studies and examples.
