This workshop aims to assist BUILD-IT partner universities’ STEM faculty hone their teaching methodology in an English classroom setting. Over the course of training, participants will gain a better understanding of the barriers that college-aged second language learners face when trying to learn English. Learning a second language is as much about the classroom environment as it is about the ability to learn a language. It is also important for faculty to realize that technology can be a very useful tool to an English language learner. Faculty will explore a few free tools that can be easily integrated into STEM curriculum to maximize learning proficiency. Finally, this workshop will finish by taking a look into Best Practices assessment where English is the language of instruction. Participants can expect to gain valuable insight into how content-based instruction and English education converge.
