This workshop will develop assessment team expertise in planning effective and efficient assessment of student attainment of program level student outcomes using course learning outcomes (as shown on course syllabi).  Outcome will be more effective and efficient assessment processes that can support AUN-QA or ABET evaluation preparations.

9:00 – 9:05 am Welcome to Workshop
9:05 – 9:35 am Selection of Program Student Outcomes to be Assessed
After investigating possible program level student outcomes, specific student outcomes will be selected. These student outcomes will then be the ones used for the rest of the workshop.
9:35 – 10:10 am Performance Indicators
Performance indicators are used to provide sampling data about student learning related to program level outcomes. Participants will develop performance indicators for selected student outcomes.
10:10 – 10:30 am Coffee and Tea Break
10:30 – 11:15 am Performance Indicator Development Continued
11:15 - 12:00 noon Performance Indicators and Course Learning Outcomes
Course learning outcomes are typically directly linked to specific activities or work done by students. Participants will link developed performance indicators with specific course learning outcomes. This linkage provides specific pieces of student work or activities done by the students that are strongly related to a program level student outcomes.
12:00 – 1:30 pm Lunch
1:30 – 2:00 pm Assessment Rubrics
The meaning of “assessment” in the workshop context will be explained. Then participants will demonstrate their ability to identify different types of assessment rubrics and which types of student work, e.g., direct evidence of student’s learning, are most appropriate for which type of rubric.
2:00 – 2:45 pm Linkage of Assessment Rubrics to Course Learning Outcomes/Student Work or activities
Participants will select specific types or examples of assessment rubrics to assess student learning for specific course learning outcomes/student activities or work.
2:45 – 3:00 pm Coffee and Tea Break
3:00 – 3:50 pm Assessment Planning Details
Program teams will begin to complete a provided assessment planning table for each of the selected outcomes. This table is a key element in efficient assessment planning, assessment implementation, and record keeping.
4:00 pm Wrap-up of Workshop
