The ASU/AWS EduHackathon 2017 is co-organized by Arizona State University, BUILD-IT Alliance and Amazon Web Services.
This Hackathon will focus on solving real-world problems that are present in Vietnam at the moment, and also present in many countries around the world. These include but not limited to: traffic control and reduction, e-government services, healthcare, leveraging open data.
Problem Statements:
Healthcare
- Special Needs Voice Assistant
- Emergency service system for the elderly
Environment
- Traffic flow optimization by using public data sets and enriching those with a mobile app that understand driving behavior and could feed those back into a traffic light grid
- Leverage Mobile Apps, IoT and public data sets to inform the public interactively about ongoing environmental conditions in their vicinities
Education
- Smart Campus capability that can collect information on certain activities on campus and make planning decisions for the university (e.g. Library, Lockers)
E-Government
- Chatbot that can liaise with and assist local government in dealing with citizen requests; issues, new license, forms to be completed
Who should join?
Students from any of our BUILD-IT academic partner institutions and ready to:
- Transform idea into prototype
- Compete with other students throughout Vietnam and get certificates from Amazon Web Services.
- Enhance knowledge in cloud computing and improve professional skills.
What you need?
- Ideas of solutions to real-world problems like traffic control and reduction, e-government services, healthcare, leveraging open data, ...
- Team of 3-5 people from the same institution
- Register a student AWS Educate account for each member to receive free credits from AWS to be used in the competition
- Attend the AWS Technical Essential Training Day in Danang (4 October), Ho Chi Minh City (3 October), Hanoi (6 October).

What we will provide?
To help you realizing your ideas, we will be providing the following hardware on a first come first serve basis.
Amazon Echo Dots (10 sets) Rasberry Pi (10 sets) PCduino board/parts with IoT chip (10 sets)
In addition, shortlisted teams will be able to register to use our two Maker Space at Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.

1Registration Phase (Oct 9 – Oct 27)
When registration opens, you will be able to submit all the details of your team and the identified problem and solution that you are trying to solve into the online registration form.
2Build Phase (Nov 10 - Jan 7)
During this phase your team will begin to create and innovate on your solutions. You will have eight weeks to build out your solutions using any technology you can leverage that drives the solution. We will be providing AWS Promotional Credits to allow you to build out your AWS solutions that include IoT, Machine Learning, Virtual Servers and other cloud-based infrastructure. As you begin to build your project, please bear in mind that the product will have to be demoed during the presentation phase (phase 3).
We will organize technical enablement and technical Q&A sessions during the build phase, where AWS solutions experts will present on the technologies that will be relevant for the Hackathon, and answer questions related to the building of your products.
3Presentation Phase (Jan 8 - Jan 12)
The structure of your presentation and pitch should roughly follow this template:
