Expected Outcomes:
This workshop focuses on student course evaluations that focus on identifying good teaching. After completing this workshop, participants will be aware of course evaluation question research and be able to differentiate between “good” and “bad” questions for student course evaluation surveys. Participants will then analyze their institution/college’s course evaluation survey and identify good and bad questions. Participants should have reviewed and have access to the course evaluation form used by their program/university.

Discussion on why course evaluations exist and how they are used sets the stage for determining institutional and program goals for student course evaluations. The course evaluation purpose that will be the focus of this workshop is established. | |

Research conducted on student course evaluation and questions related to identifying good teachers will be summarized for participants. How resulting student evaluation data can be used will be explored. |

Participants will critique a set of course evaluation questions from a Vietnamese school and discuss which are “good” questions and which are “bad” questions. | |

2:30 – 3:55 pm | Institutional Course Evaluation Critique |
Participants will critique their institution/college/program course evaluation and its questions and identify improvements, with validation by instructors. Then, participants will begin development of a strategy to improve their institution/college/program course evaluation. | |
