Expected Outcomes:

An on-site ABET visit is an important step in the accreditation process for engineering programs. In this workshop, we will help program teams review preparation steps, tasks, and the details of an ABET visit, along with the value and outcomes of such a visit. We will cover how to prepare for an ABET visit effectively and efficiently, whether online or in-person. Additionally, we will explore how to assemble supporting materials and evidence to be presented at an on-site visit to demonstrate programs’ compliance with ABET criteria and policies.
Workshop outcomes include:
•    Participants will gain a clear understanding of the ABET on-site visit process and its value in the accreditation process.
•    Participants will learn about the preparation steps and tasks required to prepare for a successful ABET visit, whether online or in-person.
•    Participants will gain insights on how to assemble supporting materials and evidence required at an on-site visit to demonstrate programs’ compliance with ABET criteria and policies.
•    Participants will explore how to maximize their resources during ABET visits and present evidence effectively.
•    The program teams will be able to improve their progress and preparations in preparation for an actual ABET evaluation.

Agenda
8:45 – 9:00 am Registration and Zoom Sign-in
9:00 – 9:05 am Welcome to Workshop
9:05 – 9:45 am Review of Preparation Steps and Tasks
In this session, BUILD-IT will guide you through the necessary preparation steps and pre-visit tasks that need to be completed before the actual ABET accreditation visit. We will use a checklist to review what programs need to accomplish to prepare for a successful ABET review visit.
9:45 – 10:30 am Effective Communication between Programs & ABET Evaluation Team
Clear and effective communication is critical during an ABET accreditation evaluation. This session will focus on the ways to establish effective communication channels between the programs and the ABET evaluation team. We will discuss the importance of timely and consistent communication, the types of questions likely to be asked, and how to provide relevant and responsive answers to the evaluator's inquiries. We will also examine best practices for communicating with ABET evaluators before, during, and after the on-site visit.
10:30 – 10:45 am Break
10:45 – 11:15 pm Preparing Your Programs for a Successful ABET Visit
This session will discuss the on-site visit process, including a review of program materials and interviews with students, faculty, and staff, along with an exit meeting. We will also explore how to present evidence effectively during the on-site visit, including key documents and data that demonstrate compliance with ABET criteria and policies.
11:15am – 12:00 pm Display Materials: A Key Tool During Program Evaluation
Display materials are a critical tool for an ABET accreditation evaluation as evaluators will review samples of displayed course materials, including course syllabi, textbooks, example assignments and exams, and examples of student work. In this session, we will discuss the importance of having readily available display materials throughout the visit and explore examples of possible file organization for effective presentation of evidence. We will also provide recommendations for ABET display materials and how to engage stakeholders in the process. Participants will gain insights on how to organize information and engage stakeholders to successfully navigate an ABET accreditation visit.
