Enhancing Personal Pedagogical Practices: Developing your Philosophy of Teaching at CTU

  • Date:April 12th, 2022
    08:00 am
    12:00 pm

Instructor: Mr. Jimmy Cervin, Mr. Robert Schoenfeld -- Arizona State University

Attendees: Leaders/Faculty from CTU

Expected Outcomes:  The purpose of this workshop is to help participants develop a practical, applicable philosophy of teaching. Participants recognize that every individual educator has their own strengths, values and perspectives that inform their approach to teaching. They realize that there are many ways to teach and may styles of teaching, and that meta-awareness into their own feelings of education is an important part of developing their philosophy. A philosophy of teaching allows teachers to articulate why they teach the way they teach, why they manage a classroom as they do, and provides a foundation on which to expand their own feelings of teaching.  After identifying their personal style, participants develop strategies for applying their own style in a variety of situations.

The structure of this course includes an engaging PowerPoint presentation with opportunities to engage with the instructor via virtual engagement. This is followed by several short, target specific breakout sessions designed to allow participants to learn from each other.

Faculty participating in this training should expect to be able to perform the following skills effectively and efficiently:

  1. Consider their own experiences as a student and educator as factors in their philosophy of teaching
  2. Reflect on their personal strengths, values and perspectives and their influence on their teaching style
  3. Select guiding principles for developing a philosophy of teaching
  4. Articulate the foundation of a personal philosophy of teaching
