08:30 am-04:00 pm
- Location:Da Nang
Instructor: Dr. Scott Danielson
Attendees: Deans, Division/Department Chairs and Faculty Leaders
Venue: The University of Danang-University of Science and Technology, 54 Nguyen Luong Bang, Danang
Expected Outcomes: Participants should have previously explored various project-based learning implementation models and know the value of project based learning in enhancing graduate readiness for industry. To create readiness for implementation, details such as structuring a course syllabus, critical steps in guiding successful student projects, and monitoring student progress on projects will be addressed. In addition, methods of assessing student attainment of both technical and generic course learning outcomes will be explored.
Agenda
8:30 – 9:00 am | Registration and Networking |
---|---|
9:00 – 9:45 am | Active Learning and Projects An overview of active learning models recaps their positive impact on student learning and student readiness for success in industry. Specific curriculum implementation models for embedding project classes into programs of study (curriculum) will be reviewed. |
9:45 – 10:10 am | Student Activities within a Design-Build-Test Project Participants will identify key project milestones that reinforce important aspects of the engineering design process as related to design-build projects. Then, a draft course schedule will be developed incorporating these milestones. The schedule will enforce student progress goals and provide opportunities for monitoring student progress. Both one and two-semester projects will be addressed. |
10:10 – 10:30 am | Coffee and Tea Break |
10:30 – 12:00 pm | Student Activities within a Design-Build-Test Project (continued) Participants identify key project milestones reinforcing important aspects of the engineering design process as related to design-build projects. Then, a draft course schedule will be developed incorporating these milestones. The schedule will enforce student progress goals and provide opportunities for monitoring student progress. Both one and two-semester projects will be addressed. |
12:00 – 1:30 pm | Lunch |
1:30 – 3:15 pm | Assessing Student Attainment of Learning Outcomes in a Design Project Participants will develop expected learning outcomes for students working on a major design-build-test project. Then, using constructive alignment of learning and assessment, appropriate assessment tools will be identified. |
3:15 – 3:30 pm | Coffee and Tea Break |
3:30 – 4:00 pm | Course Syllabus Example A detailed course syllabus elements incorporating project milestones related to the engineering design process and student design-build-test project will be explored. |
4:00 pm | Final Questions and Wrap-up of Workshop |
