Strategic Planning and Goal Setting are a valuable for Higher Education.  However, too often we fail to achieve our success because we do not understand how to monitor our progress and tie our operational activities to the items most critical for achieving our goals. This three-part hands-on program provides practical techniques and templates for application in higher education and is designed around the methodology for a comprehensive university quality framework encompassing student learning, stakeholder needs, valuing employees, planning and leadership, knowledge and resources management and stewardship, and of course a continuous improvement quality culture.  Using the Higher Learning Commission Systems Portfolio as an aspirational model, participants will learn how to set university level KPI’s for key core areas, map KPI’s to operational indicators, and monitor and evaluate progress using data driven decision techniques. This is a three-part workshop and each session will build on the knowledge from the prior session.  BUILD IT university partners and their academic Leadership teams are encouraged to participate in all three sessions.  Coaching sessions will be provided between workshop to help prepare participants to complete required deliverable.

• Handout: A Comprehensive University Quality Framework – review and know the areas that align with your assignment from Session 1 
• Read and Bring: Your Completed Logic Frameworks and draft KPI’s from Session 1 – be ready to share and present.

9:00 – 9:15 am Workshop Introduction and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Session 2
9:15 – 10: 30 am Review of Session 1 – Team Presentations
Teams will be called upon at random to present and share their homework from Session 1. Please be prepared! A coaching session is provided post Tet to review and prepare. Participants will provide formal feedback via rubric and comments.
10:30 – 10:45 am Coffee and Tea Break
10:45 – 12:00 noon Refining Performance Measure and Target Setting
Participants will work in teams to refine draft KPI’s, select appropriate measures, establish clear data definitions and define targets and thresholds.
12:00 – 1:15 pm Lunch
1:15 – 2:30 pm Application – Different types of Measure for your Organization
Participants will critique KPI examples to develop different types of measures for aspects of the organization (strategy, operations projects programs, employee performance).
2:30 – 2:45 pm Coffee and Tea Break
2:45 – 4:00 pm Cascading Alignment
Participants will utilize the logic model and KPI’s developed in their teams to create a cascading model for organization unit KPI’s and individual KPI’s . These will be further refined through virtual coaching sessions and will be a deliverable required in preparation for session 3.
