Institutional Quality Assurance (IQA) Workshop

The Inaugural Workshop for Institutional Quality Assurance (IQA) will provide senior academic leaders of STEM institutions with a keen interest in developing IQA systems and seeking IQA accreditation with a foundation to achieve their goals. Different general models for IQA, including the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) model, and European and American models will be introduced and discussed. Workshop participants will be familiarized with typical activities for an IQA accreditation process. The Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Cycle, an important element of an IQA system, will be explained. The AUN-QA system will be employed as an example to illustrate the operations of an IQA system. The Workshop will emphasize the active involvement of constituents in the IQA assessment as a key element for success for IQA systems and IQA accreditation. Exercises on evaluation of several IQA criteria will be conducted and evaluated by the instructor.

Program Quality and Assessment (PQA) Workshop

The Inaugural Workshop for Program Quality and Assessment (PQA) provides a foundation for STEM program teams preparing for international accreditation—either AUN-QA or ABET. Different models of accreditation will be briefly analyzed, including their similarities, and the general preparation process for these types of accreditation discussed. The important aspects of successful stakeholder involvement in accreditation will be featured—a topic often new to Vietnamese STEM programs. The linkage of institutional mission, individual program goals and their roles in accreditation will be investigated. Finally, development of important student outcomes—what students are expected to know and be able to do at the point of graduation—will be practiced and critiqued by the instructors. The mapping of these student outcomes and the program’s courses where they are enabled will be explained—enabling programs to accomplish such work before the next PQA workshop in November!
